Ukrainian, Polish leaders set to talk on security, military cooperation in Warsaw
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to meet Polish President Karol Nawrocki in Warsaw, Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar confirmed.
The meeting, proposed by Kyiv for this week, is aimed at strengthening security, military, and economic cooperation between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports, citing Polish media.
Bodnar said the leaders will discuss Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, peace negotiations, military cooperation, the defence industry, economic reconstruction, and historical issues, including exhumations of victims of the Volhynia massacre.
On military cooperation, Bodnar confirmed that Poland plans to deliver 14 MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine as part of an exchange that will see Kyiv provide expertise and drones to Warsaw. Operational details, including the exact number of drones and the transfer timeline, were not disclosed for security reasons.
Bodnar highlighted Poland’s critical role in supporting Ukraine’s security and reconstruction efforts. He explained Poland’s absence from recent US-Ukraine talks in Geneva and other meetings in London and Paris by noting that Ukraine was the guest in those formats, while Poland participates in the “Coalition of the Willing.”
The ambassador also confirmed that Zelenskyy is prepared to hold elections even under martial law, with ongoing discussions in parliament to ensure democratic processes continue amid the conflict.
