Zelenskyy says Orbán’s defeat shows “you cannot win permanently on hatred”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his party Fidesz, lost elections due to a campaign based on hostility toward Ukraine.
In an interview with Ukrainian media, Zelenskyy said that many leaders disagreed with his position, Caliber.Az reports.
“You cannot win permanently on hatred. You can win tactically, but strategically, you will definitely lose. The elections in Hungary are a strategic failure for Orbán,” he noted.
Zelenskyy added that he had made every effort to improve relations with Orbán’s government, “even when he (Orbán, — ed.) put up billboards expressing hatred toward me.”
“I said that I belong to the choice of the Ukrainian people. Hatred toward me is a projection of hatred toward Ukrainians,” he emphasised.
The Ukrainian leader said Orbán built his campaign on hatred toward Ukrainians, adding that Hungarians responded by rejecting it.
