Lithuania to sign accord to acquire HIMARS missile systems

    WORLD  16 August 2022 - 15:55

Lithuania will sign an agreement on the purchase of American multiple launch rocket systems HIMARS in the coming months.

Lithuanian Defence Minister Arvydas Anushauskas made the remarks on the national radio LRT on August 16.

"Estonia, with which we are implementing this program together, has already signed an agreement on HIMARS. We plan to sign such a document in the fall, and the systems will be delivered simultaneously," he claimed.

In 2021, the commanders of the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian armies agreed on collective actions to strengthen missile defence. A trilateral working group was formed, which evaluated missile defence systems taking into account the needs of the Baltic States with the prospect of acquiring them.
