Ombudswoman condemns French National Assembly’s anti-Azerbaijan resolution
Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudswoman) of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva has condemned the anti-Azerbaijan resolution adopted by the lower house of the French Parliament.
The biased resolution against Azerbaijan, adopted by the lower house of the French Parliament on November 30, 2022, does not reflect reality, is provocative, and greatly damages the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Ombudsman's Office told APA.
“Adoption of a new resolution against our country after the resolution “Imposing sanctions against Azerbaijan and its immediate withdrawal from the Armenian territory, demanding that Azerbaijan should comply with the ceasefire agreement dated November 9, 2020, and encouraging all initiatives aimed at establishing a lasting peace between the two countries”, adopted by the French Senate 15 days ago, once again proves the French Senate's disrespect for international law,” Aliyeva said.
“We believe that the adoption of such biased resolutions not only hinders the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but also negatively affects the development of political, economic, and cultural relations in the region,” she added
According to the message, by this resolution, France supports the policy of occupation being pursued by Armenia in terms of ethnic and religious hatred against Azerbaijan, which opposes the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, which are generally accepted principles of international law. The protection of Armenia, which for 30 years held the territory of another country under occupation, shows that the French government ignores human rights and freedoms.
“Once again, I condemn the unfair position of the lower house of the French Parliament in relation to our country, I regard these actions as a provocative step. I call on France to stop its activity aimed at inciting national hatred in the region and creating obstacles to the reconstruction process,” the Ombudswoman said.
