Pentagon to allocate Lockheed Martin $431 million for HIMARS production
The Pentagon has signed a contract with Lockheed Martin Corporation to produce multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) HIMARS.
The contract is valued at almost $431 million. The military department's press release says that the systems will be supplied to both the US army and Washington's partners abroad. Production should be completed by December 31, 2025.
The HIMARS MLRS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) was developed by the American companies BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin, its production has been underway since 2003. It is capable of carrying six rockets or one ATACMS tactical ballistic missile. The firing range is up to 80 km.
In September, the Pentagon signed contracts for $1.2 billion to replenish weapons stocks after helping Ukraine. It was also about the production of the new HIMARS MLRS, Javeline systems and Stinger missiles. In September, CNN reported that the US is running out of stocks of some weapons. In the same month, US President Joe Biden instructed The State Department will allocate another $400 million for military support of Ukraine.
