Norwegian Navy announces increased activity of Russian submarines

The Norwegian Navy notes the increased activity of Russian submarines, as well as reconnaissance aircraft in the North Sea area.

The channel gained access to the "extensive collection of video materials" of the Swedish Navy, which depicted Russian submarines and aircraft. The Norwegian Armed Forces are also monitoring their activities.

In particular, Commander-in-Chief of the Norwegian Navy Rune Andersen noted the Severodvinsk and Yuri Dolgoruky submarines, which, according to him, could pose a threat to strategic facilities in the United States and Europe.

"These are modern, quiet submarines armed with advanced missiles," Andersen said.

As the channel notes, the Norwegian Navy does not provide quantitative estimates, speaking about the growth of Russian naval activity. Western countries are taking retaliatory measures.

Although the country's armed forces do not have information about specific threats to strategic infrastructure, the increased readiness of the Norwegian Navy is associated with the undermining of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines last year, the channel reports.

“We are the largest gas supplier to Europe and we take this responsibility seriously,” Andersen said.

The Norwegian Navy believes that there is a "clear connection between the Russian presence and the Norwegian pipelines", and also sees "a certain pattern in the way the submarines move", according to TV2.

The channel notes that Norway became the main supplier of gas to Europe after the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.
