Azerbaijani MFA accuses Armenian PM of manipulative remarks
    UPDATED

    POLITICS  30 March 2023 - 15:10

On March 30, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan once again made slanderous remarks against Azerbaijan during a government session.

Commenting on that, head of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's Press Service Aykhan Hajizada said that Pashinyan's new attempts to manipulate the situation in the region were unacceptable, Caliber.Az reports.

He stressed that Armenia, posing as a democratic country, continues its aggressive activities.

"The Prime Minister once again tried to misinterpret the decision of the International Court of Justice on interim measures regarding the Lachin road and made accusations that Azerbaijan allegedly blocked the Lachin road.

At the same time, Pashinyan completely unreasonably treated as an occupation the control measures taken by the Azerbaijani army without using any force in order to prevent the use by Armenia of the unpaved roads to the north of the Lachin road for illegal activities and transportation of ammunition. The suppression of Armenia's illegal activities, in particular the movement of manpower, ammunition, mines and other military supplies for the Armenian armed forces on the territory of Azerbaijan, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed, is the sovereign right of Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan is determined to take all necessary measures in this regard.

Information about the taking under control of several strategic heights, main and secondary roads, as well as the border areas between the villages of Jagazur and Zabukh of the Lachin region in connection with the commissioning of the new Lachin road was met with displeasure by Armenia.

It is well known that Pashinyan's denial of the presence of Armenian armed forces on Azerbaijani territory does not coincide with the statements of other Armenian officials under his direct command and with the statements of the Ministry of Defence that the armed forces have still not withdrawn.

We well remember how the Armenian side for 30 years claimed that its troops did not occupy Azerbaijan. The falsity of all these claims of Armenia has been repeatedly proved, and the UN Security Council resolutions demanded unconditional and immediate withdrawal of Armenian troops. The Armenian side must completely withdraw its armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan in accordance with the trilateral statement and renounce its territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Instead of inviting international organizations to Azerbaijan and interfering in the internal affairs of our country, Armenia must engage in the implementation of its commitments.

It is an indisputable fact that in recent weeks Armenia has increased its aggressive rhetoric against Azerbaijan, carried out provocations against our armed forces on March 5 and 20, and is taking additional forces to the region. It's well-known that during 30 years of occupation and after 2020 Armenia shifts all the responsibility on Azerbaijan while preparing for any provocation.

With regard to the Prime Minister's absurd statements about Azerbaijan's intention to carry out ethnic cleansing and genocide, it must be emphasized that Azerbaijan has never targeted any civilian population, despite Armenia's massacres of Azerbaijani civilians. Armenia's policy and actions with regard to terror and massacres have been documented in history, and the denial only proves that Armenia does not intend to repudiate such actions.

The false and provocative statements of the Armenian side indicate Armenia's intention to deliberately undermine the peace process against the background of renewed international efforts to establish peace in the region, and such steps must be firmly suppressed," Hajizadeh said.
