US Department of State: Baku-Yerevan agreement achievable
POLITICS 26 May 2023 - 09:48
During the regular briefing the press secretary of the US Department of State, Matthew Miller, took the journalists' questions regarding the settlement between Baku and Yerevan.
Miller was asked to comment on the trilateral talks between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia held in Moscow, Caliber.Az reports quoting the State Department website.
"We were not present in the room, as you noted, but the negotiations remain a priority for us. As you know, the Secretary of State welcomed both sides here in Washington a few weeks ago. We know that negotiations have since continued in Brussels, and we support that. As we said, we believe an agreement is achievable, and we continue to urge the sides to work together to reach an agreement on the issues that remain unresolved," Miller said.
Asked whether the secretary of state plans to meet with the parties in the coming days or weeks, a State Department spokesman said, "The secretary met with them a few weeks ago. He will continue to engage with them. But I don't have any information yet about further meetings."
The journalist also touched on the delay in the appointment of the new US ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mark Libby.
"We support the swift confirmation of all our nominees, and if you have any further questions about this, you should probably contact the Capitol," said Matthew Miller.
