Russian MFA: Moscow to help Serbia defend its rights, sovereignty

Russian Foreign Ministry’s Fourth European Department Director Yuri Pilipson said that Russia will continue to support Serbia in upholding legitimate rights, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Pilipson stressed that “any decision on unrecognised Kosovo must be acceptable to the Serbs and approved by the UN Security Council,” Gazeta.ru reports.

The official expressed the opinion that Western countries are selective in their attitude to international law, they seek to replace this document with "one-sided schemes" that do not take into account the interests of the Serbian people,

and force recognition of Kosovo's independence.

Pilipson added that Russia has no reason to doubt the stability of the Serbian leadership when it comes to protecting state interests.

On May 26, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic brought the Serbian army to maximum readiness due to the aggravation of the situation in Kosovo.

On the morning of May 26, Kosovo security forces arrived at the buildings of the city administrations of four municipalities and tried to seize them. At this time, they were opposed by local residents.
