Iran links Strait of Hormuz reopening to recognition of its rights
20 September 2026 12:01
Iran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping until the United States accepts conditions conveyed by Tehran, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said.
“As long as these conditions are not met, the legitimate rights of the Iranian people are not recognized, and the Americans’ commitments are not fulfilled, there will be not the slightest possibility of returning to previous negotiating conditions or reopening the Strait of Hormuz,” he noted.
Earlier, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Iranian authorities had conveyed conditions for ending the war to the United States through Qatari mediators and were awaiting a response from US President Donald Trump.
