Azerbaijani speaker, UK Prime Minister's trade envoy discuss cooperation

Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (parliament) Sahiba Gafarova and the British Prime Minister's trade envoy to Azerbaijan Baroness Emma Nicholson discussed multifaceted cooperation on 31 May.

Gafarova said that Azerbaijan and Great Britain are friendly countries and partners. According to her, relations between the two countries are at a high level, especially in the areas of economy, trade and energy, APA reports.

She said that Azerbaijan is a reliable supplier of oil and gas to Europe, and emphasized that last year the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the field of energy was signed between the European Union and Azerbaijan. Cooperation is also actively developing in the field of renewable energy.

Speaking of inter-parliamentary ties Milli Majlis Speaker said that relations in this sphere are also successfully developing. She said reciprocal visits serve for further deepening of these relations. Gafarova reminded that in April 2023 Bob Blackman, the head of the UK-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group and several members of the friendship group visited Azerbaijan and also visited the liberated city of Agdam.

During the meeting, the chairman of Milli Majlis also informed about the current situation in the region and large-scale works carried out in the Azerbaijani territories liberated from the occupation.

Baroness Emma Nicholson said Azerbaijan was a reliable partner in ensuring international energy security. The Trade Envoy said in addition to its oil and gas resources, Azerbaijan also has great potential in terms of renewable energy.

Expressing satisfaction with the current level of partnership between Azerbaijan and Great Britain, Baroness Emma Nicholson said relations in the energy and trade spheres are developing at a high level.

Opinions were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
