Azerbaijani Interior Ministry, Council of Europe boost cooperation

Azerbaijani Interior Minister Colonel-General Vilayat Eyvazov met with co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Ian Liddell-Grainger and Liz Christophersen.

Eyvazov emphasized the special importance of the measures taken within the framework of cooperation between the ministry and the Council of Europe to ensure human rights and freedoms, Caliber.Az reports, citing the press service of the Interior Ministry.

He also spoke about the systematic work that the ministry is carrying out to further improve the professionalism of employees of the internal affairs bodies and study international experience.

Eyvazov noted that police temporary detention facilities are equipped in accordance with modern standards, the necessary conditions have been created for free and unhindered monitoring of temporary detention places by observers from government agencies and non-governmental organizations.

The co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee expressed their gratitude to Vilayat Eyvazov for detailed information on the work done in Azerbaijan in the field of protecting human rights and freedoms.

At the meeting, an exchange of views took place on other issues, Eyvazov answered in detail the questions of interest to the guests.

The purpose of the visit of the co-rapporteurs, who are visiting Azerbaijan on June 3-7, is to assess the fulfilment of Azerbaijan's obligations to the Council of Europe after the adoption of PACE Resolution 2184 (2017).
