Khankendi’s Victory Park to feature 44-metre Triumphal Arch honouring each day of war PHOTO
The Victory Park located in the Azerbaijani city of Khankendi will be graced with a majestic Triumphal Arch that will stretch over 44 metres, corresponding to the number of days of the Great Patriotic War that led to the liberation of the region from the decades-long illegal occupation.
This has been confirmed by Afet Telmangizi, the PR chief for the City Council's Service overseeing the reconstruction, construction, and management across the Khankendi, Aghdara and Khojaly districts.
As cited by local media outlets, she informed the public that the centre of the park will feature a symbolic staircase of 44 steps leading from the central square of the park to the Triumphal Arch. Each of these steps will display information about the liberated settlements corresponding to each 44 days of the war that was fought from September 28 to November 10, 2020, which led to the deaths of 93 Azerbaijani civilians due to Armenian shelling and missile attacks and resulted in the loss of over 2,000 military personnel.
According to the unveiled plans, a viewing platform will be built at the top of the arch, offering a panoramic view of the city. For the convenience of elderly people, children, and individuals with disabilities, elevators will be installed to provide easy access to the viewing platform.
It is worth noting that construction of Victory Park began in February this year when President Ilham Aliyev participated in the laying of its foundation, with the construction works ongoing since then. The total area of the park will stretch over 8.3 hectares. Several buildings constructed in violation of construction norms during the years of the illegal occupation, as well as buildings used improperly, were demolished on its territory. According to the project plans, extensive green zones will be created within the park by preserving existing trees and planting over 300 new ones, as well as more than 9,000 decorative shrubs.
