Azerbaijani lawyer becomes first national to earn SJD degree in US PHOTO
Azerbaijani lawyer Altay Mustafayev has become the first Azerbaijani to earn a Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) degree in the United States, according to the Azerbaijani Bar Association.
Mustafayev, a member of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation at Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law, Caliber.Az reports va local media.
His dissertation, titled “Judicial Discretion in Common Law and Civil Law: A Comparative Legal and Institutional Analysis through Elinor Ostrom’s IAD Framework,” examines judicial discretion in common-law and civil-law legal systems.
The research applies the Institutional Analysis and Development framework developed by Nobel Prize-winning economist Elinor Ostrom to analyze the legal and institutional foundations of judicial discretion.
An SJD is among the highest academic degrees in the field of law. Mustafayev is also a member of the New York State Bar Association.
