Romania demands to cut staff of Russian embassy
The Romanian authorities demanded to reduce the staff of the Russian Embassy by more than 50 people within 30 days.
According to TASS, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the due statement on June 8.
It is noted that 21 diplomats and 30 technical and administrative personnel should leave Romania. Thus, 11 diplomats and another 29 embassy staff will remain in the country.
On May 31, Germany announced that it would drastically reduce Moscow's diplomatic presence on its soil in response to a similar move from Russia, the latest escalation of tensions sparked by the war in Ukraine.
Berlin has ordered four of Moscow's five consulates in Germany to close, a decision that "was communicated to the Russian foreign ministry today", a foreign ministry spokesman said at a press conference.
The move comes after Moscow put a limit of 350 on the number of German government personnel allowed in Russia, the spokesman said.
