North Korea orders expansion of military production, AI integration

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for further strengthening the country’s artillery forces, expanding military production and increasing the use of artificial intelligence in offensive and defensive weapons systems, Russian media reports via the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

“Our artillery must possess the most intensive, destructive, massive and comprehensive offensive power and fulfil two responsible missions — deterrence and warfighting,” KCNA quoted Kim as saying during a visit to leading defence industry facilities.

Kim said modernisation of the country’s artillery and other military components was already bringing changes to the composition of the armed forces and contingency plans for a potential conflict.

He also called for the expansion and strengthening of North Korea’s military industry and for improvements to the technological infrastructure of defence production facilities to meet longer-term manufacturing targets.

Among the tasks outlined by Kim were increasing production capacity, accelerating the modernisation of technological processes, expanding the use of artificial intelligence in offensive and defensive weapons systems, further automating production, and strengthening the armour protection of artillery systems.
