Uzbekistan, Syria set to establish joint economic and trade committee

19 September 2026 16:33

Uzbekistan and Syria have agreed to establish a Joint Economic and Trade Committee.

A memorandum to this effect was signed by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov and Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry Muhammad Nidal al-Shaar in Tashkent on September 18.

The committee is expected to provide a framework for regular discussions on bilateral trade and economic cooperation. To implement the agreements reached, the two sides plan to develop a Roadmap for 2026–2028.

The countries also announced the launch of the Uzbekistan-Syria Business Council, which is intended to strengthen direct contacts between businesses in the two countries.

Further discussions on joint initiatives will take place as part of a business forum bringing together Uzbek and Syrian entrepreneurs.
