The Iraqi security services have detained a senior commander of the Islamic State (IS) as a result of an anti-terrorist operation in Kirkuk province.
“The officers of the counter-terrorism service, together with the representatives of the department of the Kurdish formation, detained commander of the terrorist group Abu Bahari in Kirkuk province thanks to the perfect intelligence work and constant monitoring,” TASS reports, citing the Iraqi security forces’ message on X.
Bahari led the so-called “foreign” battalion of the IS group.
The operation was carried out upon the instructions of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, who is also the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces.
