Another wave of Islamophobia in France: Mosque desecrated in Cherbourg
On January 26, a pig head graffiti was discovered on the door of a mosque in Cherbourg, northwestern France, operated by the Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DITIB).
Condemning the "unacceptable action" targeting the mosque, the group expressed its firm commitment to defend the values of respect and humanity, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
Meanwhile, an Islamophobic attack targeting a Turkish-owned mosque in Saint-Omer, northern France, has raised concerns within the local Muslim community. A plaster grenade, typically used in drills, was found outside the mosque managed by DITIB on January 22.
This follows a similar attack last year, when a pig's head was left at the same mosque during Ramadan. DITIB condemned the attack, stressing the importance of safeguarding places of worship and religious freedom.
French authorities responded promptly, with a bomb disposal squad deployed, and an investigation is underway.
The mayor of Saint-Omer also expressed strong condemnation and pledged to increase security at religious sites.
