Armenia’s security chief praises civil society talks with Azerbaijan
Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, has welcomed meetings with representatives of Azerbaijani civil society held in Yerevan this week.
The Azerbaijani participants had travelled to the Armenian capital to take part in a roundtable discussion, Sputnik Armenia reports.
Grigoryan described the meetings as “highly valuable” for the ongoing process of normalising relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
He stressed that engaging various segments of society would strengthen efforts to build peace, posting on social media that such dialogue “reinforces contacts between people.”
According to Grigoryan, the Azerbaijani delegates expressed gratitude to the Armenian organisers for creating a positive atmosphere and facilitating the event. They highlighted the importance of continuing initiatives that foster trust and cooperation between the two nations.
A bilateral civil society roundtable between Armenian and Azerbaijani representatives took place in Yerevan on October 21–22 — the first such initiative since the signing of the Joint Declaration on 8 August. Organised by the Armenian public organisation Research Centre for Security Policy, the event centred on promoting peace, fostering mutual trust, exploring opportunities for sustainable economic cooperation in the South Caucasus, and establishing lasting, direct contacts between civil society actors from both countries.
Participants, including officials and experts from both countries, stressed the importance of inclusive dialogue and committed to continued collaboration for lasting regional peace.
