Checkpoints in Armenia operating normally after truckers reopen roads
All checkpoints across Armenia are currently functioning without disruption, following the reopening of roads by protesting truck drivers.
The update was confirmed to Armenian media by Gevork Sargsyan, one of the truck drivers involved in the protests, Caliber.Az reports.
According to Sargsyan, the truckers who had blocked access to the checkpoints on the evening of October 20 have since cleared the roads and are now awaiting the outcome of discussions scheduled at the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) meeting on October 24.
"I think the issue will be resolved," Sargsyan stated, expressing hope that the concerns raised by the drivers will be addressed during the upcoming talks.
It’s worth noting that as of January 1, 2025, citizens of countries that have a visa-free regime with Russia are now allowed to stay in the Russian Federation for up to 90 days within a calendar year if their visit is not work-related. Previously, they were permitted to stay for 90 days within a six-month period.
Drivers from Armenia are demanding a review of this period.
