Georgian PM refuses to disclose details on probe into ex-Premier Garibashvili

22 October 2025 09:05

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has received answers from the investigation to all questions related to the search conducted at the home of his predecessor Irakli Garibashvili and other officials, but he cannot yet share them with journalists, the head of government told reporters.

Searches were carried out on October 17 at the homes of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, former State Security Service (SSG) head Grigol Liluashvili, former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze, and eight other individuals. Law enforcement officers seized $7.22 million in cash, gold jewellery, and expensive paintings.

“I had questions, I asked them and received answers. I have the answers, but I cannot tell you about them, because you must ask the investigators. The investigation must give you all the answers — I have no right to do so. I have the answers, but not for you. I know everything,” Kobakhidze said.

According to him, the dissemination of information regarding the course of the investigation is exclusively within the competence of the relevant authorities.

Searches were also conducted at the homes of individuals associated with Garibashvili, Liluashvili, and Partskhaladze: Mikheil Chokheli, Vano and Tornike Parkauli, Andria (Sandro) Liluashvili, and their family members.

As a result of the searches, law enforcement officers found $7.22 million in cash, 136,000 lari, 181 gold jewellery items and watches, expensive paintings, documents, 50 mobile phones, and 119 computers.

Irakli Garibashvili announced his resignation as Prime Minister of Georgia on 29 January 2024.

He held the position twice — first from November 20, 2013 to December 30, 2015, and again from February 22, 2021 to April 29, 2024.
