Russia remains Georgia’s key partner as trade grows in 2025
Trade between Georgia and Russia continued to strengthen in 2025, with the total turnover rising 3.5% in the first nine months of the year compared with the same period in 2024, reaching $1.9 billion.
Russia remains among Georgia’s top three trading partners, accounting for 10.2% of the country’s foreign trade during January–September 2025, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgia’s National Statistics Office (Geostat).
Exports from Georgia to Russia included 102,500 tonnes of mineral and fresh water, 47,800 tonnes of sugar-containing mineral and carbonated waters, 43,400 tonnes of natural grape wine, over 27,800 tonnes of alcoholic beverages, and 8,000 tonnes of fresh fruits.
Russia continued to supply Georgia with key imports, notably 249,400 tonnes of wheat and meslin, maintaining its position as the country’s largest grain provider. Other imports included 554,600 tonnes of crude oil and petroleum products, 516,400 tonnes of natural and associated gas, 23,300 tonnes of vegetable oils such as sunflower, safflower, or cottonseed oil, and 4,800 tonnes of machinery for material processing requiring thermal treatment.
In 2024, total trade between the two countries reached $2.5 billion, up 5.4% from 2023. Georgian exports to Russia rose by 3.7%, while imports from Russia increased by 6%.
