Azerbaijan launches construction of Tartar-Aghdara road
The State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads has started construction of the Tartar-Aghdara automobile road.
The length of the road according to the project will be 24.2 km, and the width will be 15 meters, designed to meet a second technical category standard with two lanes for traffic, Caliber.Az reports, referring to the state agency.
Current construction activities include the removal of damaged pavement and road base, as well as the unsuitable soil in specific sections. Crews are also working on widening the roadbed and building the subgrade, levelling layer, and base layer.
To facilitate proper drainage along the route, the project includes the installation of drainage pipes and rectangular culverts of various diameters. All construction efforts are being conducted in compliance with Construction Norms and Regulations, and a sufficient workforce has been mobilized to adhere to the established timeline.
Note that, since 2020, the government of Azerbaijan has been actively working to rebuild infrastructure, including roads, schools, and healthcare facilities in the Karabakh region to support the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homeland.
In 2022, the "Great Return" of IDPs to the liberated territories, to their ancestral lands, began. The local counter-terrorism measures, which lasted less than 24 hours on September 19-20, 2023, resulted in the full assurance of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty in every corner of Karabakh, which created conditions for expanding the geography of the Return process.
By the end of 2026, it is planned to complete the first phase of the "Great Return" programme, and 140,000 internally displaced persons will return to Karabakh and East Zangezur during this stage. In total, in the first phase of the "Great Return" program, the reconstruction and resettlement of a total of 100 settlements is planned, including in all liberated cities.
The second phase of the "Great Return" program, which consists of 3 parts will cover the years 2026-2040, and the process will be completed by 2040.
