Karabakh, East Zangazur population nears 54,000 – Statistics committee

The combined population of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh and East Zangazur economic regions has reached almost 54,000 as of early August, according to the State Statistics Committee.

Under the government’s Great Return programme, 4,325 families, totalling 17,204 individuals, have returned to their ancestral homes during the reporting period, Caliber.Az reports.

Additionally, 35,385 people, along with their family members, are temporarily residing in areas recently liberated from occupation, engaged in reconstruction and other professional activities.

Including 1,150 students enrolled at the Karabakh University in Khankendi, the total number of residents in the liberated territories stands at 53,739, the committee said.
