Azerbaijan marks National Salvation Day
Azerbaijan marked National Salvation Day on June 15, commemorating the return to power of national leader Heydar Aliyev in 1993, a turning point widely regarded as stabilising the country during a period of political crisis.
As Caliber.Az reminds, 33 years ago, National Leader Heydar Aliyev returned to power and saved the Azerbaijani people, the state, and the nation from disintegration.
In his speech at the Milli Majlis session on June 15, 1993, Heydar Aliyev announced a new strategy for the future development of Azerbaijani statehood, and this day entered Azerbaijan’s history as National Salvation Day.
On this day, at the request of the people, Heydar Aliyev returned to power for the second time and was elected Chairman of the Supreme Soviet. As a result, the long-standing tensions and confrontations subsided, and the country was saved from the threat of civil war and fragmentation. The philosophy of national salvation ensured the existence of Azerbaijan and its independence, which became the greatest achievement in the country’s history.
In 1997, deputies proposed declaring June 15 as National Salvation Day of Azerbaijan, and the parliament approved this proposal. Since then, Heydar Aliyev’s return to power has been commemorated as National Salvation Day.
Thanks to the policy continued by President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity was restored.
Under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Army fulfilled its historic mission, liberating the ancestral Azerbaijani lands that had been under the occupation of the Armenian Armed Forces for 30 years, thereby implementing the UN resolutions.
