Azerbaijan rules out use of its airspace or territory for military action against Iran
Azerbaijan has reaffirmed that it will not allow its airspace or territory to be used by any state to carry out military operations against neighbouring Iran, underscoring its commitment to regional stability and international law.
The position was reiterated during a telephone conversation on 29 January between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi, amid heightened tensions surrounding Iran, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Minister Bayramov stated that the recent escalation in the region is a cause for concern, and that Azerbaijan has consistently emphasised the need for all parties to refrain from actions and rhetoric that could lead to instability in Iran and its surrounding areas. He underscored the importance of resolving existing problems exclusively through dialogue and diplomatic means, in accordance with the norms and principles of international law.
It was particularly emphasised that the airspace or territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan would never be permitted to be used by any state to conduct military operations against neighbouring Iran or any other country.
The telephone conversation also included an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
