Azerbaijan seeks deeper EBRD engagement in banking, green energy
President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has held talks in Davos with Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), focusing on cooperation in the banking, infrastructure, and investment sectors.
The sides hailed the longstanding partnership between Azerbaijan and the EBRD, noting that the bank has successfully implemented a range of projects across the country, Caliber.Az reports via state media.
Particular attention was paid to regional water supply initiatives, including completed and ongoing projects in Ganja and Shaki. The discussions also covered potential EBRD financing for projects under the State Program for Improvement of Water Supply, Wastewater, And Stormwater Systems in Baku and Absheron peninsula for 2026–2035.
The meeting further included an exchange of views on funding opportunities in the renewable energy sector, plans to modernize the transport infrastructure of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and efforts to improve the management and disposal of household waste in Azerbaijan’s regions.
In addition, the talks addressed the current state and future development of Azerbaijan’s banking sector, as well as government measures aimed at supporting entrepreneurship and fostering a favorable investment climate for both domestic and international business communities.
