Azerbaijan sends energy equipment to Ukraine amid ongoing infrastructure attacks Photo

03 February 2026 17:19

Energy equipment donated by organisations and private citizens in the Republic of Azerbaijan has been sent from Baku to Ukraine as part of the "Warmth for Ukraine" initiative, according to a statement by Ukraine’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Yuriy Husyev.

The initiative, launched by Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrij Sybiha, is aimed at supporting Ukraine’s emergency services and communities affected by Russia’s ongoing military aggression, Caliber.Az reports per Husyev's post on Facebook.

Husyev said the latest shipment is primarily intended for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, as well as several local communities. He noted that the cargo includes 17 generators of various capacities, four portable power systems, and three heat guns, which are expected to help restore electricity and heating more rapidly following damage caused by Russian shelling.

The ambassador emphasised that the equipment represents more than material assistance, highlighting its importance in providing warmth, light, and the capacity for emergency workers and communities to continue operating, recover, and support one another.

Husyev expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan’s senior leadership, enterprises, organisations, and citizens for their consistent support for Ukraine. He added that the assistance demonstrates solidarity and reflects the strength of the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani strategic partnership.

He also said that Ukraine continues to work with international partners to secure additional energy equipment, which remains critically needed as the country faces ongoing attacks on its infrastructure. According to Husyev, such cooperation reinforces the resilience of both countries and underscores the value of collective support.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukraine’s electricity and heating systems, aiming to disrupt civilian life and undermine resilience during the winter months. Recent attacks have intensified, with missile and drone strikes hitting power plants, substations, transmission lines, and gas facilities across multiple regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, and Sumy. These strikes have caused widespread blackouts, heating failures, and significant disruptions to water and communication networks.

In Kyiv, nearly 60% of the city’s electricity supply was cut following recent strikes, leaving large portions of the population without heat amid freezing temperatures.
