Azerbaijan, UNICEF review ongoing cooperation as country chief ends term
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Saja Farooq Abdullah, the outgoing representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Azerbaijan, to mark the conclusion of her diplomatic mission in the country.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting focused on the long-standing cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations, particularly UNICEF, as well as ongoing and planned initiatives both within the country and internationally, Caliber.Az reports via the foreign ministry.
Minister Bayramov expressed his gratitude to Abdullah for her contribution to strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and UNICEF, and wished her success in her future endeavours.
Both sides highlighted the significance of collaboration in areas such as child health and education in Azerbaijan, and also discussed international programmes where Azerbaijan is acting as a donor. This includes a project to build a secondary school in Palestine.
Bayramov also briefed Abdullah on extensive reconstruction and development efforts in territories recently liberated from occupation.
He outlined the government’s “Smart City” and “Smart Village” concepts, and shared details of initiatives aimed at ensuring the dignified return of displaced citizens to their homes.
Abdullah welcomed improvements in indicators related to children’s health, welfare, and living conditions in Azerbaijan, and underlined the importance of effective cooperation between UNICEF and relevant national institutions.
