Azerbaijani chess players help setting new record

Azerbaijani chess players competing at the European Individual Chess Championship 2023 in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia have helped to set a record for the competitions.

European Championship has set a new achievement in terms of the number of participants, according to azerisport.com.

Some 482 chess players from forty countries are competing there. According to this indicator, the current championship surpassed European Championship (2010) Chess Event in Rijeka (Croatia), which brought together 408 chess players.

Azerbaijan is represented by 19 athletes in Vrnjacka Banja, while Eltaj Safarli is in the lead after four rounds.
