Azerbaijani leader accepts credentials of new South Korean envoy, discusses future cooperation PHOTO
On June 15, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of Kang Kymgu, the newly appointed Ambassador of South Korea, highlighting the successful development of bilateral relations.
The Azerbaijani leader underscored the positive state of political relations between the two countries, highlighting regular political consultations and ongoing dialogue at high levels, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
President Aliyev emphasised the broad potential for expanding cooperation, particularly in political, economic, and trade spheres. He also noted the importance of collaboration within the frameworks of Azerbaijan’s industrialisation and regional development programs.
Ambassador Kang expressed his honour at being appointed to Azerbaijan and his appreciation for meeting President Aliyev on June 15, Azerbaijan’s National Salvation Day. Reflecting on the history of bilateral relations, he recalled the official visits exchanged between the two countries — including the late President Roh Moo-hyun’s visit to Azerbaijan and President Aliyev’s state visit to South Korea — which significantly boosted cooperation.
The discussions also covered promising areas of partnership such as high technologies, digital transformation, science, education — including vocational training — and healthcare.
Ambassador Kang highlighted South Korean business interest in the Alat Free Economic Zone as a key area for future investment.
Both sides acknowledged Azerbaijan’s role in promoting peace and stability in the South Caucasus and expressed hope that such efforts could inspire lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
