Azerbaijani president receives Iranian foreign minister to strengthen bilateral ties PHOTO / UPDATED
On December 8, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received a delegation from Iran led by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, underscoring the two countries’ commitment to deepening cooperation across political, economic, and transport sectors.
President Aliyev highlighted the long-standing historical ties between Azerbaijan and Iran, noting that the centuries-long coexistence of their peoples gives special significance to bilateral relations, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He welcomed the recent intensification of cooperation, citing the visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Azerbaijan and reciprocal visits by other high-ranking officials as important steps in further expanding collaboration.
The Azerbaijani leader underlined that the bilateral agenda is broad, covering multiple sectors, and that concrete roadmaps have been developed for all key areas. He also praised the successful work of the intergovernmental commission, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, transport, and energy. President Aliyev expressed confidence that the visit of the Iranian delegation would be productive.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi conveyed President Pezeshkian’s greetings to President Aliyev, emphasising the Iranian leader’s high regard for Azerbaijan and its president. He noted that the Iranian President has instructed efforts to further develop relations with Azerbaijan since taking office. Araghchi also stressed the deep-rooted nature of Azerbaijan-Iran ties and the importance of strengthening them further.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on issues of mutual interest, reflecting the shared commitment of both countries to deepening cooperation.
