Azerbaijani minister optimistic about Armenia's participation at COP29 in Baku
Mukhtar Babayev, President of COP29 and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, expressed confidence that Armenia will send a delegation to participate in the 29th session of COP in Azerbaijan.
In an interview with local media during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Babayev noted that the delegations of Azerbaijan and Armenia did not engage in talks in New York during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly, Caliber.Az reports.
However, he said, Armenia has been invited to the upcoming Baku COP29 conference in November.
"Traditionally, all countries send their delegations to COP, and we believe that Armenia will also be represented," Babayev noted.
Earlier, on September 16, Artur Hovhannisyan, Secretary of Armenia's ruling Civil Contract party, stated that they are not yet prepared to discuss Armenia's participation in the COP29 climate summit. “I don't have an answer to this question. If there are such processes, you will know about them. Now, I think it is premature to discuss this issue,” he remarked during a parliamentary briefing.
In July, Azerbaijan extended an invitation to Armenia for the COP29 climate summit, emphasizing Azerbaijan's commitment to fostering inclusive international cooperation despite the ongoing geopolitical tensions between the two nations.
