Azerbaijan plans to resettle 6,000 more citizens in Aghdam's revitalised village of Khidirli PHOTO

06 July 2025 12:21

The resettlement of approximately 6,000 people to the village of Khidirli in the Aghdam district is planned to occur in two stages, said Leyla Sarabi, the press secretary of the Service for Restoration, Construction, and Management in the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend districts.

According to her, the first stage of the construction is already nearing completion, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

“The village of Khidirli is located in the northwestern part of the city of Agdam, just 3 kilometers from the district center. The foundation-laying ceremony took place in October 2022 with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. The area of the planned territory is more than 417 hectares.”

Leila Sarabi noted that, throughout the first and second stages, the plan is to resettle about 6,000 people and to build 1,498 individual houses:

“The area covered by the first stage is 170.44 hectares. Within this stage, it is planned to resettle 719 families, totaling 2,951 people. A total of 719 individual houses have been built: 263 two-room houses, 332 three-room houses, 121 four-room houses, and 3 five-room houses.”

In addition, the village has been equipped with the necessary modern social infrastructure — administrative and service buildings. These include a multifunctional administrative building, a community center, a medical center, an ambulance station, a guesthouse for the temporary accommodation of education and healthcare workers, household facilities, workshops, a secondary school, and a kindergarten. Approximately 20% of the village’s area is occupied by green spaces.

The agency’s representative also discussed the kindergarten, which is designed to accommodate 120 children:

“The building features play and music rooms, sports halls, and provides all the conditions for the complete and comfortable development of children. The kindergarten is surrounded by green zones, with playgrounds, sports fields, and gazebos constructed around it. Solar panels have been installed on the roof of the building.”

Furthermore, a general education school with 528 student places has been commissioned:

“The foundation for the school was laid in April 2024 by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. The school consists of five buildings, including a sports hall. On an area of 2.7 hectares, there are 21 classrooms, 2 preparatory rooms, facilities for computer studies, technology, and basic military training, three laboratories, a library, a sports hall, an assembly hall, a cafeteria, and other rooms. The school is equipped with everything necessary for quality education. On the school grounds, a sports area with a running track, as well as playgrounds and recreational zones, have been constructed.”

Notably, on July 3, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, together with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, participated in the opening ceremony of the first stage of the village of Khidirli in the Aghdam district.
