Baku Initiative Group raps French media for misleading public

29 July 2024 20:00

Unfortunately, the TF1 TV channel, as well as a number of French media outlets, misleads viewers by disseminating biased and one-sided reports and articles against Azerbaijan, as well as against the Baku Initiative Group (BIG).

BIG Executive Director Abbas Abbasov said this while commenting on the report “External Interventions: How Azerbaijan is Trying to Undermine Stability in France” aired on French channel TF1, Caliber.Az reports.

“The purpose of such reports is to justify France's colonial policy, as well as to denigrate the activities of the Baku Initiative Group and other civil society organizations demanding that this country abandon its policy of colonialism. This report is an attempt to cover up gross violations of international law and fundamental human rights in the territories held by France under colonial control,” Abbas Abbasov noted.

“The editorial staff of TF1 channel is well aware that the Baku Initiative Group is an international non-governmental organization and was established in 2023 within the framework of the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Azerbaijan by representatives of peoples suffering from France's colonial policy. We are not fighting against a specific country or government, but against the colonial system that deprives people of the rights and freedoms of self-determination.

“The biased position of the TF1 TV channel is based on the fact that the TF1 group is run by people of Armenian origin, in particular Ara Aprikian. French media, accustomed to flagrantly violating journalistic ethics, did not contact BIG this time either.

“Baku Initiative Group does not interfere in the internal affairs of any country and builds its activity within the framework of international norms. Our organization will continue to fight for a world in which the peoples affected by colonial policies will be able to fully use their freedoms and rights,” Abbas Abbasov said.
