Azerbaijani delegation joins UN Summit of the Future PHOTO
An Azerbaijani delegation is participating in the UN Summit of the Future, which has just commenced with adopting the Pact for the Future, said Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev.
The summit will serve as a platform for discussions on behalf of all humanity and future generations, Caliber.Az reports.
"The summit will address how we will tackle the challenges we currently face, as well as those in the future, including the climate crisis," the statement reads.
The high-level event on September 22-23 unites UN Member States, UN agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), civil society organisations (CSOs), academic institutions, the private sector, and youth under the theme, “Summit of the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow”. The Summit aims to establish a new global consensus on the future we desire and the actions we must take today to ensure its security.
In 2020, through the Declaration on the Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations, Member States requested the Secretary-General to formulate recommendations for addressing both present and future challenges. In response, Secretary-General António Guterres issued “Our Common Agenda”, which outlines strategies to strengthen global governance and multilateralism within the UN, and suggests holding a Summit of the Future “to forge a new global consensus on what our future should look like, and what we can do today to secure it.”
