Balancing membership with non-participation in alliance operations Orbán's NATO Dilemma
According to Kossuth radio, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has expressed his belief that Russia has no interest in engaging in a military conflict with NATO, given the alliance's superior resources.
However, he contends that Brussels is preparing for potential conflict.
In this regard, the Hungarian authorities are studying how it can be a NATO member and not participate in operations outside the alliance.
"There have not been many situations in the history of NATO where a member state has so openly maintained a special position as Hungary does now. Therefore, its role in the military alliance must be reconsidered. Our lawyers and our military are working on this now. This issue should be resolved by Hungarian diplomacy," Viktor Orbán said.
The prime minister said that he did not understand why Europe "does not want to isolate" the conflict between the two Slavic states and does not cooperate with Ukraine and Russia in military matters. He noted that this leads to the militarisation of the EU countries. Viktor Orbán also named the military conflicts of the last century as the cause of the EU's main problems - migration and demography.
