Beijing reaffirms support for peace talks in Ukraine conflict
Beijing has reiterated that its approach to resolving the Ukraine crisis is guided by the principle of the previously outlined “four necessities.”
According to a white paper issued by China’s State Council, the document outlines China’s broader vision for global governance reform, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
On June 17, the State Council Information Office published a white paper titled “More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China's Principles, Proposals and Actions.”
“With regard to the Ukraine crisis, China follows the principle of the ‘four necessities’ as the fundamental guideline,” the document states.
The white paper further notes that China, together with Brazil and other Global South countries, has launched the “Friends of Peace” initiative on the Ukraine crisis. The group aims to mobilize international efforts to create conditions for a cessation of hostilities and the start of peace negotiations.
Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined four principles forming the basis of Beijing’s official position on the Ukraine issue. These include respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, consideration of the legitimate security concerns of all states, and support for all efforts conducive to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
