Belarus confirms ongoing Lukashenko–Trump dialogue with fresh US proposals
Active dialogue between the presidents of Belarus and the United States, Alexander Lukashenko and Donald Trump, is ongoing, with new proposals received from the American side, Ivan Tertel, chairman of the State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus, said.
Tertel told journalists that he briefed President Lukashenko on the new US proposals earlier on December 23, taking into account Belarus’s position and the president’s approach aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution of disputes, particularly regarding Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Belarusian state news agency BELTA.
“Many issues are being discussed — global and regional matters, as well as bilateral relations,” Tertel said. He added that the latest proposals and the future course of talks with the US are currently under active discussion.
“All aspects are being carefully examined — the potential consequences and the steps we can take. The head of state has set a firm approach: safeguarding national interests. We move exclusively in the interests of our country, calculating every step in the short, medium, and long term,” Tertel emphasised.
The chairman noted that developing relations with the United States is in Belarus’s interests and noted what he described as a new, constructive approach from the current US administration under President Donald Trump.
“The US president and his team are doing a great deal for peace in our region to stabilise the situation,” Tertel said, adding that there are many opponents of this process, particularly in Europe, and that US counterparts are aware of this.
