Belarus launches presidential election campaign as five candidates vie for power
Belarus has officially launched the campaign phase for its presidential elections, with candidates set to present their platforms to voters.
The election campaigning will run from January 1 to 25, 2025, Caliber.Az reports per Belarusian media.
During this period, presidential hopefuls will outline their agendas ahead of the vote on January 26, 2025.
Under Belarusian law, campaign materials cannot include war propaganda, calls for actions that threaten the country’s constitutional integrity, or defamatory content targeting officials or fellow candidates.
Five candidates have been officially registered by the Central Election Commission, including incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko, who has held power for over two decades.
Other registered contenders are Alexander Khizhnyak, leader of the Republican Party of Labour and Justice, Oleg Gaydukevich, head of the Liberal Democratic Party, entrepreneur Anna Kanopatskaya, and Sergey Syrankov, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Belarus.
