Belarus's Lukashenko advocates for stable ties with Armenia as Western policies fluctuate
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has called for maintaining strong ties with Armenia during a recent meeting with representatives of various nationalities living in Belarus.
Lukashenko emphasized that despite challenges, Belarus has consistently sought to support and cooperate with Armenia, Caliber.Az informs via foreign media.
"It would be good if our relationship with Armenia remains as strong as before, despite all the imperfections and nuances. Believe me, we are not to blame for this," he stated.
Lukashenko also noted that while Belarus has been a supportive ally, Armenia seems to be gravitating towards the West and the EU.
Highlighting his concerns about Western policies, Lukashenko remarked, "We are not opposed to cooperation with the West or the Americans, but their policies change with each new administration. They have a habit of forgetting past relationships."
He also warned against relying too heavily on uncertain Western alliances, advising instead to "not lose what you already have" and to value existing partnerships.
The president praised the Armenian diaspora in Belarus, saying, "You are no longer Armenians to me—you are Belarusians. You are our people, our citizens."
He welcomed all newcomers, highlighting the positive contributions they make to Belarusian society and encouraging more families to come, assuring that "there is work and land for everyone."
