Bishkek to host next meeting of CIS Heads of States Council
The next meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State will be held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan on October 13, 2023.
Aide to the President of Russia for International Affairs Yuri Ushakov has said this, Report informs referring to the Russian media.
“The leaders of the Commonwealth countries will decide on the transition from January 1, 2023 of the chairmanship in the organization to Kyrgyzstan (Kazakhstan and Russia will become co-chairs). Kyrgyzstan has already proposed a date for the next commonwealth summit in Bishkek: October 13, 2023. We expect that all this will be approved by the leaders,” he said.
In addition, a decision is expected to be approved to extend from January 1, 2023 the powers of the Chairman of the Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev for another three-year period.
According to Ushakov, the participants in the meeting in Astana will also determine the thematic years in the CIS for 2024-2026, as well as choose the cultural capital of the CIS in 2023.
"Here the candidacy of St. Petersburg is being considered, we expect that it will be supported," he added.
