Unknown drones increasingly spotted over German military, critical infrastructure
In Germany, there has been a notable rise in sightings of unknown drones flying over military bases and critical infrastructure facilities, according to the German newspaper Bild.
Pilots have reported repeatedly encountering these unmanned aerial vehicles, which tend to operate quietly and predominantly during nighttime hours. Citing a classified report, Bild revealed that this marks the first comprehensive analysis of the aerial threat posed by unidentified drones, Caliber.Az reports.
Between January and March of this year, authorities recorded 270 incidents involving a total of 536 drones. In 55 of these cases, multiple drones—two or more—were detected simultaneously.
The majority of drone sightings occurred in the evening, with 45% taking place between 6 p.m. and midnight. Another 28% were reported between midnight and 6 a.m., while fewer incidents happened during daylight hours, comprising 13% in the morning and 14% during the day.
Additionally, the report highlights that most sightings happened on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, suggesting a pattern in the timing of these drone activities.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations into the purpose and operators of these drones are ongoing.
