CBS: Zelenskyy may also join Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska
US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are planning a summit in Alaska on August 15, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.
Trump confirmed the meeting date on his social media platform, Truth Social, followed by a confirmation from the Kremlin.
While the meeting is currently set between the two leaders, a senior White House official told CBS News that the planning remains fluid, and it is still possible that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could be involved in some capacity.
The White House indicated earlier this week that Trump is open to meeting with both Putin and Zelenskyy. However, on August 8, Trump suggested he might begin by meeting only with Putin, telling reporters he plans to "start off with Russia." He added, "we have a shot at" organising a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia.
Meanwhile, Russian businessman and Putin adviser Kirill Dmitriev acknowledged the planned meeting in a post on X, emphasising areas of cooperation unrelated to the ongoing conflict.
He suggested that the US and Russia should "partner on environment, infrastructure & energy in Arctic and beyond."
