Late Senator Lindsey Graham’s sister wins Republican Senate primary

Darline Graham Nordone, sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, has won the runoff in South Carolina’s Republican primary and will be the party’s candidate in the November US Senate election, the German Press Agency (dpa) reports.

The 62-year-old Graham Nordone, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump, defeated Congressman Ralph Norman. She had no prior political experience, but following Lindsey Graham’s sudden death in July, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed her to serve as interim senator.

Speaking to supporters, Nordone thanked Trump, saying the victory would not have been possible without his help.

The election for a full six-year Senate term will be held on November 3. Given the Republican Party’s traditionally strong position in South Carolina, Graham Nordone is considered the clear favourite in the race.
