Teen gunman opens fire in Times Square, injuring three
A 17-year-old gunman opened fire in the heart of Times Square early on the morning of August 8, wounding three people and sending crowds fleeing from the bustling tourist hub.
The shooting broke out around 1:20 a.m. near the intersection of West 44th Street and Seventh Avenue during a dispute between two individuals, according to the US press.
An 18-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the neck, while two men — aged 19 and 65 — were shot in the legs. All three victims were rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where they are listed in stable condition, police said.
Officers quickly apprehended the teenage suspect and recovered a firearm at the scene. His identity has not been released due to his age, and charges had not yet been filed as of Saturday morning.
Video footage posted on X captured the moment chaos erupted outside the Hard Rock Cafe, with crowds scrambling for cover as gunfire rang out. In the aftermath, waves of police officers descended on the area to restore order, and one person was seen being loaded onto a stretcher and taken to an ambulance.
Times Square, one of New York City’s busiest tourist destinations, returned to calm after the shooting, though the incident left many shaken.
