France probes death threats against Macron over planned recognition of Palestine
France has launched an investigation into death threats made against President Emmanuel Macron by a French-speaking rabbi, the Interior Ministry confirmed to Le Parisien on August 8.
The Paris prosecutor’s office said the probe, opened over “death threats against the President of the Republic,” has been assigned to the criminal brigade of the Paris judicial police, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“These comments are unacceptable,” the Interior Ministry told the newspaper, referring to remarks made by Rabbi David Daniel Cohen, who reportedly resides in Israel.
In a video posted on August 3 on the YouTube channel Archives 260 — dedicated to Judaism, Jewish history, and Jewish geography — Cohen warned Macron to “prepare his coffin,” accusing him of planning to recognise the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September.
The rabbi called the move a “declaration of war against God” and accused the French leader of “deep antisemitism.”
Cohen also made inflammatory remarks toward Palestinians, urging them to “pack their bags and leave,” claiming they “will not be able to remain on that land no matter what happens.”
In July, Macron confirmed France’s intention to officially recognise Palestine during the UN gathering.
