European leaders urge begotiations based on current frontline in Ukraine
European leaders, in a joint statement on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, have called for negotiations to be conducted based on the current line of contact.
The statement was published on the website of the UK Foreign Ministry, Caliber.Az reports.
“We remain committed to the principle that international borders must not be changed by force. The current line of contact should be the starting point of negotiations,” the statement reads.
We stand ready to support this work diplomatically as well as by upholding our substantive military and financial support to Ukraine, including through the work of the Coalition of the Willing, and by upholding and imposing restrictive measures against the Russian Federation.
The document was signed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen; Presidents of France, Emmanuel Macron, and Finland, Alexander Stubb; Prime Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, Poland, Donald Tusk, the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
They also expressed support for President Trump’s efforts to end the conflict. According to the statement, European countries continue to firmly stand by Ukraine. They are ready to support the peace process through diplomatic means, as well as by providing substantial military and financial assistance to Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia.
