Zelenskyy: US no longer has illusions about Russia’s desire to end war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said the United States no longer has any illusions about Russia’s intentions to end the war.

In an address to Ukrainians marking the country’s Independence Day, he urged Kyiv’s allies to bring the Russians to the negotiating table, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

“I believe that America will overcome all its contradictions and phobias regarding Russia. We need to bring the Russians to the negotiating table. We finally need to impose sanctions that will make them howl. We need to give Ukraine everything that will force them to end the war,” Zelenskyy noted.

He stressed that Kyiv was not asking its partners to “fight for us,” but only to provide the means needed to bring the conflict to an end as soon as possible.

Zelenskyy also called on China to respond to Russia’s statements and actions, including threats to use nuclear weapons, and urged European countries and other partners to join forces to pressure Moscow.

“The day when peace comes to Ukraine will also come,” the president concluded.
